New Hampshire Health Study of Keratinocyte Cancers

Incident non-melanoma, keratinocyte cancer cases were identified through the collection of skin cancer case reports from all physicians and pathology laboratories reviewing cases for New Hampshire residents. Controls were selected from lists of New Hampshire residents obtained from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (<65 years) and Medicare enrollment lists (≥65 years). To be eligible, participants were required to be residents of New Hampshire, aged 25-74 years at time of diagnosis, speak English, and have a listed telephone number. Study participants completed an interviewer-administered questionnaire to obtain sociodemographic information, lifestyle factors, diet and medical history, with harmonizable variables to the skin cancer study. Participants provided information on their household water system and water consumption, and we collected and analyzed their tap water, urine and toenail clipping samples. All participants provided informed consent in accordance with the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects at Dartmouth College.

How to use these data

These keratinocyte cancer studies were conducted in phases. The best data to use for analyses are those that have been cleaned and harmonized in the pooled data link on the left. Summaries of the data for each individual phase is provided by clicking on the left. Use these individual datasets when there are questions about the instruments used to collect these data or to add variables to the pooled sets.
